Lollie Rueppel's Obituary

Lollie Rueppel’s Obituary was in the Sacramento Bee on Friday, June 16, 2023

Delulace (Lollie) Windell Rueppel passed peacefully in the morning of May 18, 2023 in her home at Lake of the Pines, Auburn, CA.  She will be missed forever by a multitude of her family and friends.  She is survived by her loving children Kelli Hayes, Susan, Duane, and Jack Rueppel, treasured grandchildren Haley Hayes, Todd and Erik Rueppel, two great grandchildren J.T. and Nathan Rueppel, and her sister, best friend, and traveling buddy Jean (Chance) Windell.

Lollie was preceded in death by her parents Albert (Bert) Porter Windell, Beatrice (Bea) Windell (Davidson), her brothers DeForest (Forey) Windell, Duane (Dude) Wendell and John Thomas (JT) Windell, her husband of 43 years, Kenneth Rueppel in 1987, and her 23-year-old son Jason Rueppel in 1975.

Born in Canonsburg, PA, on September 22, 1921, Lollie grew up in Indiana. She was a veteran of World War II where she flew as a high-speed radio operator / crew member aboard C47/DC3s for the U.S. 2^nd Air Force. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Rueppel, while in the service, married and moved to Spokane, WA where her five children were born, and later moved to California where her children grew up.  Lollie was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She had tremendous pride in her family.  

Kenneth and Lollie retired to Lake of the Pines in Auburn, CA in 1974 where she enjoyed being a busy member of the Women’s Golf Club, the Firebelles, and the Auburn Quilt Guild, and more.  Lollie was 101 years old when she passed.  She treasured each of her 49 years in her little A-Frame at Lake of the Pines.  

Lollie loved her time spent in scouting with her own and other children, her deep interest in quilting and other fiber arts, love of travel to foreign countries, and seeing most parts of America many times over 18 years traveling in a motorhome with her sister Chance. She was happiest seeing new places and meeting new people, and considered herself feisty, active, and sure of herself.  She was also an enthusiastic student of history, politics, and geographic research. She was a creative artist who decorated her home and others with quilts, stitchery, paintings, and mementos from her trips abroad and around America. Lollie was a very fun-loving person with a beaming bubbling outgoing personality that endeared her to everyone she met. She will also be remembered for her inner strength.  

At her request, there will be no formal services. There will be a private family interment in Golden Gate VA National Cemetery in San Bruno, California for our much-loved mother and WWII veteran, where her ashes will be placed on a sunny hillside in the same grave as her beloved husband Kenneth.
